Retired fire fighter makes confession about the racket of being a fire fighter. It's a money scam.

Hot enough to turn homes, glass, steel and aluminum into ash, but not burn trees

1st  fire fighter
In my past life, I worked as an aviation firefighting pilot.  Forest firefighting is a government run racket.
The federal and state forest service attempt to extinguish all fires and thus cause a build up of "fuel" pine needles, leaves, etc.  This makes some future fire a raging forest fire that quickly burns out of control.
The 2nd observation is the forest service caused "back burns", often explained by fire crews as "having a kitchen fire and then start a fire in your living room for a back burn."  I never saw a back burn work.  Bulldozer clearing a fire cut worked, but back burning resulted in causes another fire.  Wind is created by an unequal heating of the earth's surface.  A forest fire creates it's own wind!
A 3rd observation is "the racket".  The forest service has thousands of part time fire fighters working seasonal employment making silly money.  The incentive is to keep working long 24 hour PAID schedules for as long as possible.  I personally witnessed a fire boss call all assets off after we notified him that a few aerial drops would have the fire out.  We were called back to the same fire a week later when it turned into a raging forest fire.  It went from 100 acres to several thousands of acres.  I witnessed this same fire boss starting back burns with a ping pong ball napalm gun from a helicopter.  The fire started as a lighting strike and ended up being man-made.

2nd ex fire fighter

In Australia back burning or pattern burning was used to control build up of fuel (leaf litter etc). It worked because the Aborigines had changes the environment by the pattern burning hunting methods. It then became very bad for whitey to continue and so we periodically have horrific fires sweeping over communities.
An ex many year ago, was a reserve fire fighter and his occasional comments confirm they started the off fire to keep funding going... not in conditions that would allow an out of control inferno.
I wish I knew more about the Cal situation but enviro regs and topside commanders play a HUGE role in the death toll. Not just bush management but also the materials used in construction and the way fire breaks are / are not used because trees cannot be cut down or habitation disturbed for rhodents, plus this obssession with not bulding dams etc for adequate water, lets neighbourhoods dry off unnecessarily. Sierra Club > Club of Rome > The Inferno of Hell.

Fire fighters roll with every thing they got for even the most trivial of fire call - to keep budgets going up and up. And in all these cali fires this October, survivors and homeowners noticed, no firemen around, except for the TV cameras.
